Founded in 1977 by the staff of the Kenya National Library Services (KNLS), Maktaba SACCO has grown to become a leading SACCO in Kenya, drawing its membership from various government ministries, parastatals, non-governmental organizations, private sectors, and entrepreneurs.

Our History

2023
SACCO opens its new offices in the Maktaba Kuu building. The launching of the new offices was graced by Department of Cooperatives Principal Secretary Patrick Kilemi, Commissioner for Cooperatives Development David Obonyo among other dignitaries

2020
SACCO introduced M-Sacco, a mobile banking platform enabling its members to transact using their mobile phones. The platform offers features such as withdrawal, balance inquiry, mini statements, loan access, and Sacco payments.

2010
Achieved an annual turnover of over Kshs 19 million and a net surplus of over Kshs 800,000. The Sacco has grown from strength to strength over the last five years. The sacco has been growing steadily in the desired direction.

2005
From its inception Maktaba Sacco’s mission has been build a strong Sacco with a long term financial strength, stability and sustainability that would grow into a leading a Sacco in Kenya offering high quality and diversified financial products and services to its members at affordable rates.

1977
Sacco was registered on 28th February 1977 under the Co-operative Societies Act (Cap 490)as a Savings and Credit Society in the Republic of Kenya. The Society was founded by the staff of the Kenya National Library Services (KNLS).
